Lenten Experience, Day 7: Oh Facebook, Y U Take My Life?

The previous post I have made was already written and I have no idea why I didn’t just click submit.  I will be honest with you, the reason why I haven’t post anything was due to laziness and Facebook.  Good Heavens, Facebook can be so evil some times!  Have any of you even play Candy Crush?  I was suck on a level (166) for EVER!

But as I reflect on how I am so bad at everything I do because of Facebook, I came to realize that I am obsessed with it.  I know what some of you are thinking, “why didn’t you just give up Facebook?”.  The reason is that I felt like I could communicate with my Facebook using my blog that I am NOT doing because of Facebook.

Facebook is the Heaven and the Devil of our generation.  It is a freaking gold mine of information.  Honestly, if it wasn’t for Facebook, I wouldn’t have known that the Pope was going to retire.  I wouldn’t know if I have a homework quiz, or what is going on in our meetings.  I personally rely on Facebook.  If you know me, I have practically everything.  My brother and I are obsessed with today’s world.  He loves anything that deals with technology   I love anything social and posting what’s on my mind.  He wants the latest phones (except Iphones…that is too mainstream), I have most of the latest social media.  Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, WordPress, Instagram, Pinterest, Snapchat, Youtube, Google +…the list goes on (except I don’t go on the ones I can’t remember immediately).  I am kinda in charge of my Circle’s K Twitter.  Information is the key thing right now.

There was a point in time when I couldn’t stop posting something on the internet.  I had to post something on my Facebook and Twitter once a day (no more than that because that is too much for me).  When you post a status on Facebook, it ‘replaces’ your old one….what if I wanted to say two completely different things and want both to be seen?  I have my Twitter to do that for me.  #hashtag #meme I’m all over that stuff…and I love it.

Is there a problem with wanting all the latest social media, phones, games, console?  Yes.  I admit to it.  But there is a good thing about having so much sources to put out your voice, you are able to promote the good of the world instead of bad mouthing what someone wrote on so-and-so’s wall.  I love, with all of my heart, to put encouraging words!  Before my computer messed up,  I had this really long document of all of these amazing quotes I’ve found, now they are gone and I feel like I lost a big chuck of me (guys, this was about 6 years of quotes that I found amazing)

If you are typical, or maybe obsessed, you might check your phone first thing in the morning and check your Facebook to see if you have any notifications.  I know I do.  I went to the FOCUS/SEEK Conference I keep talking about during the first of the year, and one thing that has stuck with me for the longest time was – instead of going on Facebook or Twitter or Instagram first thing in the morning, why don’t you read the Gospel instead?  An app that I recommend, that doesn’t cost a thing, is Laudate.  It is an amazing app with the Mass reading of the day and Sunday’s reading.  It shows how to pray the rosary.  It shows the Saint of the Day and different prayers and novenas.

After I heard that, I thought to myself that doing that would be super easy.  It was.  I didn’t miss a day at all, until I played Candy Crush on Facebook.  I need to get my proprieties straight.  After I realized I haven’t been reading the Gospel, I started to read every day I missed.  I’m still a working process, but I haven’t missed in a few days.  I’m good!  Since I’m kinda blogging not to date, If I have no real topic, I will write about my interpretation of the Gospel of that day.  That means that it would not be on the day that I blogged on necessary.  I’ll try my best.

The main thing I want you to get out of from reading this is to enjoy social media, write something positive; don’t let that get a choke hold on your life.  I was never the type to do “daily readings”…or to read the Bible every day, but the app that I talked about really is helpful.  This is my challenge to you…read something from God or mediate or pray.  Some of the readings are a paragraph long.  Come on, is checking that notification, probably about a game, more important than God?

Read on,

Sasha

I’m completely obsessed with social media (mainly Facebook…and Pinterest), too! I like how you at least say we should at least turn it into a positive and encouraging experience for others :)
